Many people ask, "Why the name 'Sistermaide'?" it is one of my favorite questions to answer...while this company was still getting started, it was my brother and I. He was building contractor, and I was the woodshop operator. He installed the cabinets. After answering the question, "Where did you get my new cabinets?", several times, while he was carrying the new kitchen or bathroom cupboards into the home, he suggested to me, to have a company name, and it should be, 'sistermade cabinets, because his answer was always, "My sister made 'em.".

That was a good suggestion, but I like names with 'real' meanings, so I changed the name and spelling to reflect my intentions in the woodworking field.

The questions were probably brought on, I suppose, by the fact that these items had no labels, no special cardboard containers to unwrap, and no big major books, pamphlets or owner's manual to go with them. (who needs a book to tell you how to open a cupboard door, pull out a drawer, or identify the parts in the kitchen?).

I decided that a dual purpose spelling would suit my purpose even better.... sister, of course, because I am, of course, and a sister, I have no problem with the made part eithor, because they are made, by the sister...but I like to say something in there, that would indicate a high class type of kitchen item... hence, let me combine the two types of the word, maid, and made, to indicate that it is for high quality use, in the kitchen, but made also by a woman for a woman. Maybe I am long on words, and such, (my husband will attest to the fact that I am long winded...) so this is somewhat of a shortened explanation of why spell it like I do.

I believe in making all my things to the highest standards that I can, and am always pleased when paople tell me that I did a better job, or a match, etc... than they had expected or hoped. To me that is a better reward than a lot of other things that I can think of. I try to charge the least that I can afford to, because I think that we all are looking for a bargain. I have less overhead than a lot of big shops, but I also have a lot more set up time, since I do more little jobs than most bigger places.
